Therin J. Rhaintre
pronounced (Thair - in) (Rain - tree)
Therin lives in the RDCK near Slocan. Born and raised in Ventura County, she became a Canadian citizen after moving here as an ecologist and environmental consultant in 2012. She pursued her legal education in Ontario and is grateful for the opportunity to be back in the mountains, living and working in the Autonomous Sinixt and Ktunaxa territory of the Kootenays.
Therin helps her clients negotiate enduring agreements that operate at the centre of every family and business venture. She is a member of the Law Societies of BC and the Yukon and is an accredited mediator.
Prior
to her career in law,
Therin enjoyed working outdoors as a ecologist, primarily in California, Nevada, and Utah.
Therin studied Indigenous Laws, Aboriginal Law, and Environmental Law at Lakehead University in Thunder
Bay. She worked with the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General, on placement with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, contributing her legal research to government contracts, environmental legislation, and treaty negotiations. She continues to be passionate about proactive reconciliation and supporting indigenous laws in Canada.
In private practice in Ontario, BC and the Yukon, she has enjoyed working with a wide variety of business clients in the areas of corporate and tax law, aboriginal law,
environmental law, mediation and collaborative dispute resolution. Therin applies these skills to helping families as well, such as advising on family planning agreements and helping couples through separation/divorce.
Therin puts her breadth of skills to work for each client, negotiating
and drafting lasting agreements.
Degrees
Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, Lakehead University, Juris Doctor
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, B.S. Environmental Studies and National Security Policy, Minor in Aeronautical Science, Cum Laude
When Therin isn't researching case law or helping you negotiate a settlement, she enjoys spending time outdoors. You might find her on a trail any time of year, skiing, biking or walking with friends. In spring and fall, she's likely to be behind a pair of binoculars (birders, you know who you are). And, if it's sunny, check the lake.
